Bringing Relationships to Light

You're Beautiful
Sorry I haven't blogged in forever. I've been going through life's struggles and trials, coming out the other end refined and purified. I will get into details, but just not yet. Let's just say that when two become one, and then perhaps they become two again, it is a very painful and awful process...yet beautiful somehow.
I have a lot to say about that, but as I said, today is not that day. Today I want to lift you up. I want you to feel the expression of love that I feel when I hear my favorite song at the moment...I just had to share it with you. I've been going through so much lately and somehow, God always manages to lift my Spirits...I hope it will lift yours.
May God richly bless us all this year, in our comings and goings, in our hellos and goodbyes, in our blessings and struggles. God loves us and wants to inhabit our praise and wants to help us in our daily living. Lift your eyes unto the Lord, surely this is where your help comes from. God be praised.
May all your dreams come true in 2011 and remember, "you're beautiful".
Love & Namaste,
Maria

Inner Pearl
Interesting since working with energy has so much to do with emotion. As soon as I became involved with Reiki, unresolved emotions from my past, fears and concerns about my future and the present unsettled moment kept coming into focus. The time to clean house had come whether I welcomed it or not. This was a good thing, though at the time, quite gut wrenching.
I dealt with all of it, so I thought.
The lessons I should've learned from some past similar experiences have come around full circle. Truly, what goes around comes around. Even if you try your hardest, sometimes somethings are coming for you and they're going to hit you squarely so take them when they come so as to avoid repeat fire.
I've taken this one squarely.
I'm still standing and I'm emotionally wounded, but I'm beginning to heal and move forward. It may look like I'm standing still, but if you look closely you will see that progress is being made.
What is the elephant in the room you ask? Well, I really don't want to get into specifics, but I will say that trust is something that I value, that and truth now more than ever.
I feel that I am a very trustworthy person. I have been known to say that I am a safe bet. Why? Because I know the value of the truth. It's priceless. When no one else will speak the truth - when the whole world has convinced itself that to lie is better than honesty - I will be there saying 'hell no'. I can't help it. I'm not even known to sugar coat. Personally, I think I've gotten better at it - telling the truth that is.
Perhaps when I was younger I needed to express 'my' truth - even at the expense of other people's feelings. I've since learned to be more sensitive than that. I was young and learning. Now, I'm seasoned and have had enough of life's experiences to know that the truth can set you free and really hurt - so be gentle with it - but, speak it at all costs.
Which brings me to trust.
One of my favorite things to tell my cat Cricket, a.k.a. Crispy Whispy, is that she is 'safe, loved and protected'. I tell her that because she clearly has anxiety at times from some kitten hood trauma she had experienced before I rescued her. I've had to convince her for the past ten years that she's safe. She's loved. She's protected. She's starting to trust me I think after all these years, but she still has a lot of anxiety. I've had to build a relationship of trust with her. I work really hard at it. My heart breaks for her since it's such a deep rooted emotion for her not to trust.
I can so relate to that. I've had my share of disappointments as it pertains to my relationships. I had to learn to trust again. Which I did. Until now. Again.
Now, I'm going inside where there's stillness, and quiet and clarity and remembering what Jesus said about humanity and that He knew what was in 'us'. I think He was speaking of the fact that sometimes people will let you down and take your trust and make you regret giving it away. Let's be clear. It is a risk - trusting. Where I come from anyway.
It is a risk but one that I am willing to take. I believe in myself and in the core values that make me who I am. I believe in faith, in trust, in truth, in love.
My eyes, however, are wide open. I've seen enough in my humble life to know that not everyone has your best interest at heart. Sometimes, you have to figure things out for yourself. Protect yourself. Make sure that you are loved, safe and protected, by yourself! I trust me. I am a sure and safe bet. I will not let me down.
That is a good place to start. Again.

OM Namah Shivaya
Truth. Simplicity. Love and Service to all sentient beings.
This is the message that has come to me through the Bhagavad Gita. God, it seems, has many roads leading to him/her. God, and the great cosmic consciousness has purposed it this way.
The Bhagavad Gita was brought to my attention years ago by a star that shined on this planet for a very short time. Her name was Dina Certrulo and while she was here, she and I were friends and she taught me about things along the lines of divinity, spirituality, the Tao and Hinduism. She was probably the only person that I ever came in contact with that shared with me in this way. If it weren't for Dina, I wouldn't be leaning in this direction. Because of her safe and valued opinion I am forging ahead. She was wise beyond her years and generous with her knowledge. I would only hope to be as kind.
I have been hungry for these things forever and they very rarely fall on deaf ears with me. I'm always paying acute attention. I am aware. I am present. I am being. I am in the now.
This is revealing. It is liberating. It is cosmic.
Not just in theory. The very nature of spirituality is to take you from yourself, your 'so-called' circumstances and illuminate the magnificence in and of your life.
This year has been a year of karmic cleansing for me. The beginning of 09 was all about my throat chakra and how I was not living my authentic truth. I allowed someone to bully me. I am 46 human years young and I allowed myself to be bullied.
It was not empowering like when I was younger and had more control over the situation. This time, as karma came around, I was not prepared, caught off guard and holding my tongue in the name of 'doing the right thing' or 'taking the higher road'. I suppose for some, peace works like that, but for me communication is the key. Without saying the words "hey, that hurts" the hurt can never heal. On the contrary, the hurt festers until it becomes something entirely different, something much worse. No. Nip it in the bud. That's my new mantra on speaking the truth and living your authentic truth. Look people right in the face and with as much love as you can muster, tell them exactly what you think. Do not be spiteful, judgemental, cruel or sarcastic. Just speak the truth.
"That hurt."
or
"Please do not treat me that way, it makes me feel badly and it is very hurtful."
"If you knew how much I loved you, you could never treat me this way".
Choose your own words, but speak them, out loud, in love, into the ether, into the cosmos, outside of yourself so that God and the Universe can hear you and know that you've worked through your karma and can speak on your own behalf in truth, simplicity, love and service to all sentient beings.
Then I broke my arm. My heart was broken.
What does my arm have to do with my heart?
Well, I was on my way, so I thought, doing Reiki, helping people, giving lectures and .... then ... I had the cast and you know the rest. I was incapacitated up until very recently. It took the rest of 2009 and shoved it right into a plaster disaster. Not to make light of it, but why not. That was then and look at me now, typing close to 90 wpm and doing my hair and taking care of business and giving my biggest lecture of the year at MSU.
Bones heal way quicker than hearts.
My wrist still hurts but when it hurts I do not fall to my knees weeping.
I do not become incapacitated and depressed.
It is just healing and now I know what a healing bone feels like.
In retrospect, I also know what a healing heart feels like.
It's just about the same thing.
It's when we become attached to the outcome...we become attached to the reciprocity of love and when we don't get it...what then? The bones hurt? The bones break? The heart hurts? The heart breaks? I've learned it is better to not be attached to the outcome of love, or bones. To the outcome of life or death. A broken heart should never happen, even though you love with all that you are. Love with no expectation of getting anything in return and then ... when you do not receive love ... you will not be dis-appointed.
I just went to Shop rite and checked out at the express lane because I only had a few items. A beautiful, young, African-American male was working the register. I asked him "How are you? They're not getting the best of you are they?" and he just smiled. I said "I never let them get the best of me" and I looked straight at him. He returned my glance smiling and contemplating.
What I was referring to was the negativity, the monotony, the hatred, the sarcasm, the ill-will, all the negativity that there is in the world that would keep us from living our authentic truths, our authentic lives, the best us that we are in the world and in the cosmos ... no, they will never get the best of me in that way. I will love them though and I will love you despite all of those obstacles and I can only pray that all at once they would fall by the wayside and make way for truth, simplicity, love and service to all sentient beings.
He checked me out and handed me my bags and said looking right at me "I will never forget what you said". I replied "Good. It's important to remember" and I left the both of us smiling.
No, my throat and my heart chakras are healthy now, spining brilliantly on their axis, shining, like the planets, the universe and the cosmos and the karma has been worked through. I will speak my authentic truth, I will lead with my heart with no expectations or reservations. I will live my life in Truth, Simplicity, Love and service to all sentient beings (and firstly, to myself - this I have learned).
Next stop, Babaji.
OM Namah Shivaya.
I bow to whatever good is happening and to whomever is doing it.

Help Is Within Reach

Illness manifesting in our bodies due to past trauma is something that I'm coming to terms with in a big way in my life. It seems that as soon as I accepted this reality, opportunity began to present itself to me.
"So, you want to help people huh"? says my mind.
"Yes, I really do". says my heart and spirit.
Well, be careful what you ask for.
There are so many people in pain all around us if we would only take the time to speak with them. You need only to look into the eyes of a person to see it.
I met someone over the weekend that fits that description to a T. His name is Joe and he is in some serious pain. We went to his restaurant in Elizabeth and while we were sharing a meal with some friends he came out from the back where the food is prepared. He had a beautiful smile - but the smile didn't come very easily. He was cordial and pleasant - but just don't scratch the surface.
Now, keep in mind, I've never met this man in my life.
Underneath his forced smile is a man in a tremendous amount of pain. My heart instantly went into an empathic overdrive mode as I could see it - no, I could feel it.
He came over to our table and made some small talk. He said something about his mind always racing. He said something about crying. My husband agreed with him and said "yeah, I cry too - but not in front of my wife". We laughed because I knew what my husband was talking about but not what Joe was talking about. I knew there was something so much deeper going on. I reached into my spiritual bag of medicine and I asked him if he ever meditated and he said no. How about prayer? Meh, not so much. We made some more small talk and he left the table to go tend to his restaurant.
After some time, I went over to where Joe was standing and starting to speak with him some more. Now, this is where it gets personal - but how can we help each other unless we are willing to go out on a limb? I said before I could feel his pain. I mean, I wanted to cry to release some of the pressure but that would only help me - not him. I was praying in my spirit the whole time I was speaking with him asking God to show me...
I asked Joe plainly....."are you suicidal"?
I asked him this because I know what that looks like and feels like. I've been there. I knew he was - but I didn't know if he was willing to release any of the pressure that was building up inside of him.
Well, he just about jumped out of his skin. He looked at me in amazement. He grabbed his head with both hands "How do you know that"? he asked me.
I just know Joe. I've been there. Thank God I'm no longer there - but that neighborhood looks awfully familiar and scary.
He went on to say that he purchased a hand gun three months ago and that he was planning on killing himself.
He said it wouldn't be long now.
I pleaded with him and offered him my friendship and prayers. I gave him my telephone number and told him to call me anytime. I told him he didn't have to do that and that maybe, just maybe, things could get better.
I began to tell him a little bit more about myself and about how I used to feel the way he feels. I told him it can get better.
I'm not sure if he believed me.
It was time to leave the restaurant so, I took his number and we left. I spoke to my husband about what I had just learned. He said he could also see that Joe was in pain.
It was so obvious to us.
Suffice to say, I've already prayed for and sent Reiki to Joe. I've called him this morning and thank God he answered the phone. I have to call him back in a short while. I'm going to try and reach him on a more spiritual level but until he deals with whatever is bothering him - healthwise, he's in critical condition.
He is just one of many of us right now that are trying to cope with the reality that is our lives. We sometimes have to look at the unpleasant in order to find peace.
That's the way it's worked for me anyway - or should I say - is still working for me. I've been down that road and lived on that street in that neighborhood for a long time. It wasn't until I opened my mouth and spoke some really hard truths that the moving van showed up and took me to a much better place.
So, you want to help people huh?
Yes, yes, I really do.

Atheists' Rights Supercedes All

God lives, loves and guess what else?
While there is still breath in my lungs, blood in my fingertips, war in the world and freedom of speech in America I will pray/post/promote prayer, the Lord's prayer, and my Most High God in general - because I STILL can unlike a lot of people on this planet who cannot.
I am a warrior make no mistake - just try me.
God be praised . . .

For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever.

Masquerade

Written by me - 10.5.07
I can see your profile
The mask you're wearing
It partially hides nonetheless
Your heartless and blank staring
Why are you pretending
It doesn't hurt that much
The sting is obvious
Anger the crutch
Telling yourself you're not in pain
Everyone thinks you're close to insane
You're killing yourself now
In everything you do
It's not you against them
It's you against you
Your portrayal deceives you
No one believes you
Stop pretending you don't know
Stop pretending you don't care
Stop pretending you're in control
Stop pretending you're not frail
Baby boy is broken
Into tiny little pieces, you
Are not too old to be told the time has come
Put down your head and rest some
We'll pick them up one by one
We'll move on from what's been done
The pieces are not too many to mend and to hold
C'mon young man, you're not too old
You're just in time for the mirrors reflection
All the hurt, all the rejection
When a kiss and a hug
Was all the situation needed
But your knee jerk reaction
A shoulder shrug pleading
Away from the inevitable
Seaming of the soul
It seems the years
Have taken their toll
The walls are higher than you ever intended
impenetrable as planned, anger-hate blended
Love can't get through
It's more than most can stand
Safe and secure
In the cocoon you've spun
With less than silken threads
You're not getting it done
Dissolving before our eyes
The barricade is breaking
Into tiny little pieces
Too many to hold
Hands growing cold
As cold as your heart
Pleading with it's rhythm
Stop, stop, start, start
Which will it be today
How long can you stay
In your skin
in the fray
Of yesterday's memory
It's stealing today
And you're persecuting the world
You say no
You've got a long way to go
Everyone else hasn't got a clue
But it’s still you against you
Inside your suffering soul
There's limitless strength
Beneath the jaded anger

One Drum One Life

I've always danced to the beat of my own drum. I've always been slightly different than the rest of my friends. I have a tendency to be deep and go deeper still. Not everyone appreciates this and that's okay.
I don't appreciate shallowness so I guess we're even or at least balanced. What's the lyric from the band Jars of Clay (one of my favs)?
"Blessed are the shallow for depth they'll never find".
I search for depth. I search for meaning. I search for truth. I seek righteousness. I seek love. I seek to understand and to be patient. I mostly seek God and I must say, I've never been disappointed for He has met me more than half way.
But I understand why some don't dare search for deeper meaning. It gets sticky. It's not easy. It's not easy to look directly at yourself, scars and all. It's awful sometimes. We can be so human. We fall. We crawl. We scrape. We hide.
Again, quoting Jars of Clay
Wow. That's so deep and awesome. Think about that. All the things we want to be in this lifetime - we can be all of them - yet we're still frail.
Perhaps that's the blessed message of love. You are frail. You cannot live this life without the Holy Intercession of God. Well, you can try, but depth you'll never find.
All knowing God still puts breath in your lungs every morning. He puts love in your heart and intellect in your brains and strength in your bodies for many reasons. Mostly His own.
Go deeper if you want to find the real purpose in your life. While there is still time and breath in your lungs, go deeper still.
